UPS and battery load testing
A UPS must carry critical load until the generator takes over. You only know it does once you have loaded it with a known load. A load bank gives you that load.
We have sold and delivered a 500 kW load bank to a Swedish installer of backup power.
What you want to know
Do the batteries last as long as you calculated? Does the UPS transfer without a break? Does the system handle full power? With a load bank you get answers from measured load instead of assumptions.
Discharge with a known load
The load bank gives a steady, resistive load in 1 kW steps. You know exactly how much power the UPS delivers and can compare measurements from year to year.
Battery systems and energy storage
The load bank also suits testing larger battery systems, for example at delivery inspection. Tell us the power and voltage and we suggest a model.
Choose equipment by power
For small and mid-size UPS there are rack-mounted load banks. For large systems our stand-alone load banks fit. If the UPS is part of a data centre, also read about load banks for data centres.
Right size
Choose by the UPS output in kW. The rack models run from 3 to 50 kW, the stand-alone ones from 100 kW.
Frequently asked questions
What is UPS load testing?
You load the UPS with a known load so the batteries discharge and you see how long they last and how the system behaves.
Why a load bank and not real servers?
A load bank gives exact, steady load, can be set in 1 kW steps and can be repeated. That makes measurements comparable.
What voltage do I need?
Our stand-alone load banks run on 400 V, 50 Hz. The rack models come for 230 V and 400 V. Tell us what you have and we pick the right model.
What does a load bank cost?
Price example: the standard configuration costs SEK 300,000 for 500 kW and SEK 500,000 for 1 MW, excluding VAT and freight. Installation is not included. For options and other sizes we send a quote.
